Favorite Filmmakers/Films of the Decade:

Spike Jonze

Although I think Spike’s work in music videos, commercials, and short films is his best, his two features this last decade carry a lot of the same spirit and are great in their own way.  I would include Adaptation (2002) as one of my favorite films of the 2000s and Where The Wild Things Are (2009) was a great adaptation of one of the best children’s books ever, and one of my favorite films of last year.  Other notable work from Spike in the last decade include his documentary on Fatlip from the Pharcyde called “What’s Up Fatlip?” in 2000 as well as a documentary on Maurice Sendak in 2009.  His segment in Fully Flared was amazing too.  Some of his better music videos included Fatboy Slim’s - “Weapon of Choice”, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs - “Y Control”, a couple of Bjork videos, and Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights” as well as a short film with Kanye.  His latest work is a short film that premiered at Sundance called “I”m Here.”  I won’t be posting any more Where The Wild Things Are screen shots, as I think tumblr has probably covered every frame of that film at this point.
