Make a visit to Hearst Castle if you ever get the chance, it’s just as ridiculous as the Xanadu newsreels from Citizen Kane make it seem. It’s built almost entirely from pieces from somewhere else in space and time (real Roman columns, ancient Egyptian statues, ceilings from other castles, the façade from a Spanish cathedral…) They’re glued together by steel-reinforced concrete buildings designed to look like masonry and designed by Julia Morgan, a fascinating character in her own right.

The polar bear cages are empty now, but according to the guides there’s still three dozen zebras roaming the grounds.

This is place is amazing. I second jstn’s recommendation to pay a visit…
    Plus Route 1 kicks ass.
Just don’t drive it at night.
    Scary.
